최지만은 조선 백자의 미감에 근본을 둔 백자 작업에 몰입하고있다. 도자기 그 자체가 갖춰야 할 기본에 충실하면서도 과하지 않고, 스스로 돋보이려 하지 않으면서도 존재감이 있는 백자 기물들 (White porcelain objects)을 만든다. 사발, 합, 원통, 연적, 제기 등의 백자들은 최소한의 행위로 핵심만을 드러내는 절제된 표현이다. 그의 작업은 평정심을 찾는 과정으로 반복 된 수련을 행하는 수행과 같이, 물레를 돌리고 무심히 형태를 만들고 깎고 다듬는 과정들을 통해 사유하는 정신의 결과물로 백자가 완성된다.
Jiman's white porcelain adapts the aesthetics of Joseon Dynasty's white porcelain. While being faithful to the fundamentals of ceramics, his white porcelain objects are not excessive nor striking. Bowl, hap (a food bowl with a lid), cylindrical container, yeonjuk (water container for making ink), and jaegi (plate used in Korean ancestral rites) made of white porcelain are a restricted expression revealing only the fundamentals with minimal accent. His work is the process of finding equilibrium like the repetitive and ascetic training, and his white porcelains are a product of thoughtlessly spinning the wheels and making form through trimming and shaving.
